Wow !!! I really like how you got the striped effect with the colour variation. It must be fun using the Koigu to see what effects you get each time.

I'm liking how they turned out. I think I'll try some other colours too, for a non-goth twist ;o)

I believe it is 100% nylon. (Nothing on Threadart's website, or on the labels - but google search suggests this.) There are many many strands of very fine fiber. It is very strong, and also very elastic so will 'give' with the yarn - this is one of the traits at attracted me - I fear that reinforcing threads that are not elastic-y would braise against the wool, therefore causing wear as opposed to reinforcing wear. So, I'd be afraid to use cotton thread, for instance.

Wooly nylon is often referred to as Serger Thread, and my understanding is that this is its most common use.

And, as an aside, spell checker prefers "Woolly Nylon" ;o)

I clicked the link to Threadart and they don't list what the fiber content is for your wooly nylon. Is it just nylon? Why do they call it wooly nylon?

I won't knit 100% merino socks because they wear out so fast. That takes a lot of beautiful handpaints off my potential yarns list. I wear socks out at the top of the toes. My big toenail cuts right through merino. I don't often carry along a reinforcement thread. I have one precious skein of STR I could try it out on...
