Base Tension Settings
These are the settings of the Tension Screw that I use as my base point on my two primary sock machines.
These settings presume that the Heel Spring will be used for the entire sock. The settings are for the cylinder indicated and would be different for different cylinders.
The settings are for a standard fingering weight sock yarnsuch as Opal, Regia, Fortissima, and for medium type dyes….tension would be set looser for dark, full value reds, blues, blacks etc.
(*some machines have different sized cams, and thus the settings might be different for such machines)

Hi Gail; I use same fingering weight yarns on the 72 as on my 54 – but for large, xl or medium+ sized socks instead of medium or small that I do on the 54. I don’t use lycra as a separate feed, but there is a lycra type component to Regia Stretch sock yarns, and to Paton’s Cotton Stretch and I do knit with those. I usually back my tension of a bit for those yarns, or add a few rows.
