On a recent binge visit to Koigu, I selected these colours for a particular project:
From the left: P816, P603. P521. P819, P451 and P809.
The method in my madness of selecting these particular colours – each has a dominant colour of the rainbow but also contains, in a lower proportion, the colour of the skein adjacent. So the predominantly red skein also contains some of the same tone of orange as the skein beside it, the orange skein has some of the yellow, and so on, ending with the purple skein which contains some of the blue preceding it.
And as if to complete a circle, the red skein has some of the purple in it as well.
I’m anxious to play with these colours and see what kind of socks evolve on my sock knitters.
But to take things a little further I contacted Taiu at Koigu and asked if she could custom paint something special for me, and she said she and Rhichard would put this special request together for me. I picked it up today:
This colourway is made up of the dominant colours and in the same values as each of the 6 colourways above.
Sweet!
Maybe this colourway could be called Koigophone, or Soxagu….but officially it shall be known as P882.

Is the P882 available to the general public? Can I buy some from you? This the the most awesome yarn!
Drop dead gorgeous! Can’t wait to see what you’re going to churn out with those beautiful colours. All the best for 2011, may it be filled with health and happiness.
I’m liking the P882 too! I don’t sell Koigu at this time. I honestly don’t know if they will be producing it beyond what they did up for me, but I didn’t ask for an exclusive on it so I presume it will find its way into the market place if they like the colour as much as I do ;o)
Thanks, and the same back at you. I’m already testing some patterns with the new Koigu colours, and I’ll have photos soon!
This was very enjoyable to create for Doug. It has lead to other versions and several stiples also. I shall try and get Taiu to post the new colours before we leave for The National Needle Arts trade show on Thursday. Check on our Facebook page or on our Ravelry groups.
I also did the same dye lot/s in stiples and on our Kersti yarn. With a soxophone accompaniment in the backround sing “Its looks good . . . just the way that it should now baby”
It will be a toss up as to which is more fun…. painting it, or knitting it!
